We have been having good luck catching redfish on both sides of the Bay. However, we are landing more bruiser size redfish on the St. Pete side of the Skyway Bridge!
The Redfish on the St. Pete side have mostly all been in the mid to upper 30 inch range. Not good News if your tournment fishing or fishing for your supper, but big fun in the line pulling deptartment.
These big redfish are being caught mostly on the incomming tide in 2-3 ft. of water. Fish the grassy flats with scattered potholes and oyster bars. Once again it's cut threadfin herring thats getting the job done!
My choice of tackle is always Eupro. I have been using Eupro 15 lb. braid, 20-30 IT flourocarbon, 2/0 circle hook with a 8 ft. Eupro Diamond rod for extra long casts.
Cast your bait and let the pinfish have at it. It's Mr. Pinfish pecking at your bait thats going to attract the bully of the neighborhood, Mr. Redfish! So, when you hook-up, make sure to hang on and enjoy the ride!
Look for more slot size redfish on the flats East of Joe'sIsland. Oh, by the way the Tarpon are here! If interested ,check-out www.tampabayinshoreinsider.com for a full tarpon and South Shore redfish fishing report, Shamrock style!
