Smith Lake
June 30th, 2012
Big fish were biting on Smith lake today. As the night fishing was terrible on Friday night. The action picked up around 4 a.m. as the fish turned on. We lost our first fish which was a small one and had several short bites. Then we hooked a good one. It took some muscle and luck to land this fish. Not only was it big, but it got hung up in a underwater cable and came free. Shortly after landing that fish we had moved down to the mouth of Lick Creek. We hooked up pretty quick and this time it was Ken's turn. After Ken set the hook, he picked up the rod and that's when I saw the rod flying into the water. It only took a second to hit the water and started to sink. Within a blink of and eye, he dove in head first and came up holding the rod. With the fish on, he pass the rod and I helped him in the boat. There was no hesitation and that's why he was able to get it. I'd bet only one out of ten people, would have had the reaction time and made the save. That memory will stick with me for awhile. Between landing the big fish and saving the rod, I'd call it a good day. Also while out, Scott Harris landed a pig and there will be pictures of this weekends biggest fish up by Sunday. The morning bite is where we can still catch some big ones.
