Big OH YEAH!!!!!
From the Island of enchantment.
Tons of Fun under the Sun.
Beautiful weather and great sea conditions for the month. Some rain here and there from weak systems passing around us but no major storms in the area. Lots of beach going and light tackle action around the structure.
The Bite got really active for two or three days in the San Juan area in the first quarter of the moon, some boats like our friends from Legend went 4-3 on the rise of the moon. The IBT 63 ran from Club Nautico of San Juan September 12-18. There were 48 boats releasing around 56 fish in four days. The average fish per boats were low, to my recall even in 2011 were a hurricane came by during tournament days and only had 3 days of fishing the fleet released over 80 fish and even in past years the least were 80. Reasons and theories are many but the most important was the water temperature was extremely high in the 86 + degrees, making the bait scarce in the surface. Also Puerto Rico is taking care of protecting the species creating all release tournaments and FAD systems but the scarcity of Pelagic species in the area is simply because they are not reaching our island. WHY? Everybody around us are still killing for food locally or commercially or just for the hang fish PHOTO. Plenty of marlin tagged in PR go as far as Africa and Brazil. Why they have not tagged instead killing those big females in Bermuda, Bahamas, East coast USA and Gulf USA tournaments. They may be the big females that are not reaching the Spawning grounds of The PR Trench.
RIP Mr Pedro Pons who died doing what he loved the most.
Also the tournaments in the west are coming and also the Puerto del Rey Billfish Open.
Lets see what the moon of October brings. OCTOBER THE GRAND SLAM MONTH
