Today I had the pleasure of guiding noted outdoor writer/photographer Jill J. Easton on a fun filled day of fishing in the fish filled waters south of Mississippi's mainland.
We first made a run to Ship Island where we wore out the light tackle on high-leaping ladyfish, bluefish, blue runners, and bonnethead sharks.
However, our quest was to land a couple of those beautiful and delicious Florida pompano, and through persistence and hard work we managed to boat 4 of those silvery beauties. Lost one on the prop, but since these fish make such wild runs and jumps, well, those this happen at times.
Made a run back to the Katrina Reef, and although we had a short time to fish, a fine catch of 35 ground mullet and big 14 to 16-inch white trout, as well as a nice Spanish mackerel were boxed.
This bite was just turning on, and could have caught all you wanted of these tasty fish at that time. By the way, fishing for white trout and ground mullet makes for a great family outing.
These fish are great eating, extremely plentiful, and there is no size or number limits on the two species. Thus, kids can have a great time catching them on light tackle.
Fishing is going strong in south Mississippi, so come joint the fish catching fun!
Remember...life is short...let's fish!
