Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 9/22/07
Bluebird sunny skies, high pressure and east winds were just not a good combination for a great week on the water. The fishing was slow, the bites were hard to find and the days were long on Guntersville this past week. The bigger bass have buried up in the grass or remained in the deep water and it made for some tough times on the water.
The fish we caught were relatively small with a few exceptions; although we caught some numbers the fish were mostly less than 14 inches. The small fish was chasing the baitfish most of the week, and the only bait that seemed to produce some numbers was a rattletrap. The few bigger fish we caught were buried deeply into the grass, and were caught on a rat in the back of the heavy mats of grass.
Some of the areas of the lake that has been producing some good bites for me just didn't pay off as I expected they would. We did find up river on one of the days some fair size fish on the river channel edge in the middle of the afternoon; those fish were caught on a big worm.
This past week we fished, Punisher's Lure Spinner Baits, big worms, Tight-Line Jigs, rattle-baits and a traditional rat. We worked depths from 1 foot to 9 feet of water, around ditches, channel edges and grass mats.
