Blue Water Report
Captain Tommy Williams went for yellow fin tuna and found them! While pulling his standard surface pulled lures he caught tuna, dolphin, and Wahoo. His customers caught quite a few dolphins and had a great time with this surface running fish. The Wahoo hit hard and screamed to the mid water column before quickly ripping off 100 yards plus of line. Wahoo are known for seemly being in one place and skyrocketing from another. Their erratic movement is what makes this fish so interesting to watch and hard to catch. It's necessary to keep your line tight so as to keep as much control as possible. When you get "Wahoo hooked up" I suggest keeping your boat in gear, which should compensate for some of this fish's crazy moves.
There hasn't been a lot of yellow fin tuna caught this year. Captain Tommy did managed to land a 70-pound fish while pulling the Deli Ledge area this past weekend. He had another fish hooked up, which conveniently threw the hook! The next day I heard lots of blue water radio chatter in regards to sky rocketing yellow fin tuna around the Deli Ledge and ledges to the north. All I can say, "tuna to the north!"
