We got the blues today! We fished for stripers today as well as cod. We fished with light tackle and really had a blast sorting through the blues to get our stripers. The catching of stripers was tough with so many blues around. It was incredible action, though!
The cod and haddock was a surprise--we did great on the haddock but the cod we were catching in the same spot last week weren't there. Tammy, using our electric reel, managed to land one of the best wolf fish of the year. It was almost 20 pounds and a great eating fish. It's ok, though, as we had a blast fishing. We were treated to an amazing whale show between cod and stripers. The whales were feeding on the SE corner and we saw them for 5 miles!! That's how many whales there were.
The boat is in the shop now getting a bit of work done on the engine, but I'll be ready for more charters at by Wednesday. The silver lining is that the boat is spic-and-span clean again and my gear is reassembled even more organized than before. Think tuna! The tuna are there and the typical, August-October feed they put on should be epic. These fish this year have been very, very large and it should be amazing. Furthermore, there is a good new crop of smaller fish moving our way and they're around the Vineyard right now. Think mid-week trips for these amazing and delicious gamefish.
