The RELENTLESS fished the BOMA tournement in Boston which is held yearly. BOMA is an international organization of building owners and managers and has branches all over the globe. BOMA Boston has been putting on an annual striped bass fishing tournement. This year the fishing has been relatively slow in Boston due to a lack of bait and big fish. Over twenty boats entered the tourny and all methods of catching striped bass were used including tube and worm, chunking and trolling.
After getting underway from downtown Boston we observed birds working off of Castle Island and trolled shad umbrella rigs made by 9erlures and had no luck. We proceeded to deeper water and never marked a fish and passed by two boats in the tournament who were chunking. We found fish and birds working in Quincy Bay in about 15 ft of water and trolled up about one dozen and only one keeper which was released.
Making a move to towards lower middle channel we located fish sying low to the bottom and tried using wire line and jigs. On the first pass we hooked into a very large fish using a purple and black 2 oz bucktail jig which broke the line at the jig. After a few more passes we did manage to pull a few more 26-27 inch fish out of the area and had to head back to downtown Boston to drop off the party for an awards luncheon. Even though our four guys did not win any prizes on this day, it was a perfect day to be on the water fishing aboard RELENTLESS or any other boat.
There was a lack of bait in the area which contributed to the slow fishing for most guys. Congratulations to all the winners in the different catagories and we look forward to participating next year.
