Bottom Fishing In October 2008
I really don't know where to start when I throw this heading up. The bottom line is that October, November, and December are great months to bottom fish "always has and always will!" At least during my fishing times, which is now almost 50 "remember-able" years!"
Fish just like change and during this time they get it! When the water temperature thinks about dropping all size fish are alerted to the fact that "change is in the air!" However, in this case "under the water!" All depth waters from the coast on out the big deep blue are holding the attentions of moving bottom fish. I remember this one time while bottom fishing at the "L Buoy" that my customers caught a gag grouper almost every time they dropped they bait hooks. The "L buoy" is an artificial reef located about 15 miles offshore in around 55 feet of water. It has a lot to offer the bottom fisherman especially at this time of the year. The reason being that most artificial spots are holding fish!
On this particular "gag grouper fest day" we must have caught over 20 of these fish. They weren't all legal, but there were some nice gag's way over 24 inches. It was amazing to find myself in the middle of what looked like a "school of grouper!" It has been my theory that most fish when schooling, school according to size. Not in this case, because there were fish from 12 to 30 inches long. The bottom line to this report is when fish are migrating, as they do especially at this time of the year, you really never know what you might catch where! Check all of your past spots!
