On the South West Miramichi the last couple of days I saw several brook trout being caught. My cousins Johnathan and Kenny caught some brook trout in the 2 to 4lb range, they were hooked on a whiskers with a green butt. I netted one for Jason Curtis around 2lb, he hooked it on a Black Ghost Streamer. I had several takes but nothing hooked up, I also seen several fish rolling about.
Good friend Robert Arbeau hooked 4 Shad yesterday (Friday) and could not get 1 to hold on to land. There a few more Shad rolling about but should be more around in a week or less.
Should be great trout fishing for you guys wanting to sail the Cains River this weekend. All the trout we seen hooked the last couple days have been at the mouth of Cains River or below.
I am going to give it a try in the Doaktown area on Saturday and Sunday and see what we can hook into. I seen some nice Trout rolling and Shad near Doaktown Friday. The water is still holding around 60 degrees, and very good for this river. I have not heard any reports about the North West Miramichi over the last few days, Soon as I do I will let you no.
Flies of choice small Dry flies, bombers, whiskers, muddlers, Wet flies, Streamers, maribou patterns, Nymph Flies, Stoneflies, Woolly Buggers.
Have fun and let me no how you do.
