As the winter gets closer the fishing starts changing. We had a very cold November for North Florida standards. The water got down to 57 degrees last week and was back up to 60 Friday the 28th.
When the water gets that cold the Trout bunch up and all you need to use is soft plastics when you locate them. The size will be from 13 inches up 20 inches but there is no reason you can't catch 30 to 50 fish in a few hours.
What the cold water does also is bring an end to the Flounder gigging for a few months. Not that you can't still gig a few fish in the winter it's just not worth the hard work half the time.
I slipped out last Sunday morning the 23rd for what might have been my last gigging trip until next spring.
It was a great way to go out with great conditions weather and water clarity both as good as you could ask for…
In less than 2 hours I had seen at least 15 Flounder and had my limit of 10. Like I said you can't ask for anything better. I had several charters this Thanksgiving week and we just wore the Trout out. Look for those reports and pictures soon and remember we can catch fish all year in Jacksonville and the weather is usually very comfortable!!!
