He has been guiding since 1990 and is an Orvis Endorsed Outfitter fly fishing guide at CB's Saltwater Outfitters in Sarasota. Specializing in fishing with flies and lures on light spinning tackle, Capt. Rick fishes the bays, back country and coastal gulf waters from Tampa Bay to Charlotte Harbor in his 18' Action Craft flats boat. He is a Federation of Fly Fishers certified fly casting instructor. Destination fishing trips are another specialty of Snook Fin-Addict Guide Service. Capt. Rick has lead groups of fly anglers to remote fishing locations around the world. Crane Meadow Lodge, MT, Los Roques, Venezuela, Andros Island Bonefish Club and Bonefish Bay Club in the Bahamas are several destinations where he has hosted groups in the past. Capt. Ladyfish will begin feeding in glass minnow schools and if they stay on the surface long enough other predators will join the fray.

[Southwest Montana,MT] I traveled to Crane Meadow Lodge in Twin Bridges, MT on Weds, 8/27 to host a group of friends and clients on our annual trip to the lodge. Nick Reding, Jim Ewoldt and Howard Curtis, all from St. Louis, MO, Dennis Kinley, from NJ and Mike Perez, from Richmond, IN and I all met up in Bozeman on Weds afternoon and made the 1 hour drive to the lodge.

Although I was gone on a family vacation for most of this time frame, fly anglers continue to have anywhere from a few to more than a dozen shots at tarpon in the coastal gulf off Sarasota and Manatee counties per trip. Not bad for the middle of August!

Tarpon schools have been plentiful in the coastal gulf off Sarasota. Some tarpon schools were as large as more than 100 fish, which are more common early in the season as they prepare to spawn. These schools of fish are sometimes difficult to get to eat since they are more focused on spawning than feeding.

Water temperatures cooled to the high 50s and low 60s early in the week of Jan. 19th, slowing the pompano bite that was going on prior to that.

[Sarasota,FL] Anglers fishing with me on the Snook Fin-Addict, out of CBs Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had good action with trout, bluefish and reds during the past couple of weeks. Reds and trout moved into shallow water recently following several fronts that dropped water temperatures into the high 50s and low 60s. Negative low tides concentrated fish in potholes along sand bars giving us some sight casting opportunities.

[Sarasota,FL] Anglers fishing with me on the Snook Fin-Addict, out of CB's Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had good action in the coastal gulf with Spanish mackerel and reds, snook, trout and blues on the flats of Gasparilla Sound and Sarasota Bay recently. Fishing was best for Spanish mackerel in the coastal gulf during the week of 10/27. Water temperatures cooled by 5 degrees or more following a front and then fishing in shallow water got hot.

The timing was just right this year with the weather being perfect, frost on the ground or mid 30's in the morning, warming to the mid 70's with almost no humidity. Unlike several other years when water flow was an issue, we had plenty of water this year due to a good snow pack last winter and spring.
