Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Justin, Shawna, Autumn and Pierce Weiss from Ohio chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started the morning trolling in 150 feet of water with 4 surface lines, which included three Ballyhoos and one surface chugger bait, plus two deep planer lines with Bonita strips. There was a northerly current, and as we were trolling to the north of Fort Lauderdale, we stopped getting bites. When we started heading back to the south of Fort Lauderdale at a slower speed, we started getting more bites. What also worked was heading from shallow water to deep water diagonally to deep and then back to shallow water again. This works especially good when we are working a group of fish. We caught Kingfish with the average fish weighing 8 to 9 pounds and also hooked into Bonitas weighing about the same.

The next thing we decided to do was head offshore and target Mahi Mahi. We headed out to 900 feet of water which is roughly 6 miles offshore. As soon as we got out to this area, we found weed patches and worked the weed patches trolling around them searching for Mahi. We spent the remaining part of the charter offshore, and with an hour left on the charter, we tried for a Shark. With a bloody fish head as bait on the bottom and a second bloody fish head as bait on the surface, we gave it a good shot with a 45 minute soak. The buoy float on the surface line ripped down in a violent action and the line started ripping out " we were hooked up! Justin got in the chair and started fighting the Shark. Autumn and Pierce also gave a hand fighting the Shark cranking on the Shark, and after an awesome fight, a Bull Shark surfaced. The Bull Shark was brought to the side of the boat - we had to be super careful handling this Bull Shark while removing the hooks, tagging and releasing the Bull Shark safely.

It was not time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
