Deep Sea Salt Water Fishing in South Florida. This morning in South Florida Ft. Lauderdale winds were out of the east at 12 mph - seas were running 3-4 ft., blue indigo waters pushed into the Ft. Lauderdale Beach. Mark Whitzher decided to do a deep sea fishing charter with the Happy Day Today in Ft. Lauderdale South Florida. Being from Rhode Island, Mark is an avid bass fisherman, catching up to a 45 lb. Strippers.
This morning we started off trolling to the south of Ft. Lauderdale to an area with numerous artificial wrecks from 100-250 feet of water south of Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. One of the wrecks was a sunken Haitian boat that went down in the early 90's. Since then, this wreck and others in the area have been very productive for various types of fish. We trolled to this area with two plainers down, a pink sea witch with a Bonita strip behind it on one and a 3 ½ blue reflector drome spoon on the other, which were our two deep baits. For surface baits, we had two Ballyhoos, two Stripped Bonitas and one Alibi Feather with a Bonita strip buried down the center rigger. As we trolled to this area, there was a man-of-war bird working off shore of the boat. We headed in that direction and were fortunate to find a school of Mahi Mahi's under the man-of-war. Mark and his friend, Dave, reeled in a few Mahi Mahi's with a couple of Tuna's mixed in. We trolled around looking for a Wahoo, but no luck.
As we got back on course and headed towards the wreck area, a couple of Blue fish popped up, which added to our mix bag of fish. When we got to the wreck, we slowed down the boat to let our plainers sink down deeper. The two plainers produced two Amberjacks, which made for an excellent fight; thereafter, we added a couple more King fish to the fish box. These wrecks up and down Ft. Lauderdale South Florida make for very productive fishing.
It was time to start heading back to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale South Florida. This ends another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
