CRAPPIE Crappie anglers continue to catch fish at the Chicken Coop, located just north of Pendleton Bridge/Texas side, according to reports from Holly Park Marina which is located on Patroon Bayou just south of The Coop. The best report in several weeks included a group of 6-8 fishermen fMissourisour in multiple boats who fished 2-3 days and took home 200 crappie.
This occurred around New Years ands some of these fish were on the small side, according to reports. However, last week the quality of crappie have been bigger but anglers are not catching many with 15 to 25 fish considered a good trip. Those anglers who have baited holes are catching more fish. Live shiners in 28 to 35 feet is the most common pattern. Strong north winds have prevented most crappie anglers from fishing this week.
YELLOW BASS We have caught a lot of yellow bass when weather would not let us fish for otspeciesecis. Jigging spoons in 25 to 50 feet with 40 feet being a common depth is where we spend most of our time. It has not been unusual to catch largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, bream as well as yellows on this pattern. The reason being that there is a lot of baitfish (shad) deep right now with cold temperatures and high barometric pressures.
