Bon chovy vancouver saltchuck report/june 24
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Coho fishery in Vancouver Harbour is in full swing!!! Excellent numbers of 3-7 pound coho have been stacking up along the West Vancouver shoreline. The coho are actively feeding on jack herring and dungeness crab larvae. This fishery will continue in coming weeks as waves of fresh coho push in from Georgia Strait. It is great to see such good numbers of coho in the harbour after last years poor coho fishery. Some boats have been hooking up to 15 coho a morning when the bite is on. The coho have been active throughout the day. We have good success on light coloured hootchies, anchovies, and small spoons.
Not to many boats have been targetting chinook over the last week as the coho fishing has been so good. There have been some good reports of big chinook off the Five Fingers and the Gulf Islands over the last few days. There has not been too many reports from the Fraser Mouth this week either. The Fraser Mouth was producing good numbers of chinooks up to 35 pounds last week. It is a spot that is definately worth a try again as there is some big fish heading up the Fraser right now.
As we progress into July even more areas will produce salmon with more big chinook, pinks, and Fraser sockeye entering local waters. It is looking like the whole British Columbia coast is benefiting from productive ocean conditions.
