Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 4/14/07
The cold weather took its toll on the bite this last week, I can't remember an early April where the temperature dropped like it did and the water temperature went down with it. In one week we took a 14-degree drop in water temperature, and needless to say the bite went away with it. I had one half-day trip that we never got a bite and that is very unusual for April as well as embarrassing. By late Thursday the fish started recovering and we started putting fish in the boat again. By Friday the bass got active again and we had a great day on the water, catching fish on several types of baits. Friday we had maybe 17 lbs. best 5 with the biggest fish weighing in at 4.5 lbs.
I fished this week in several areas of the lake from South to North; the pattern that paid off the most was the 4 to 6 feet of water with grass line edges, and I found the upper part of the lake better than any other area.
We boated fish on several baits "Punishers Flame Spinner Bait" paid many dividends along with several soft plastics from lizard to a big worm. This week I have been throwing Punishers new "Ghost" color Spinner bait, that's a white and lime green with a double gold and red blade and red trailer. Even though my favorite color is still the Watermelon or June bug colors. You can now buy these spinner baits locally as Waterfront Tackle and Keller's Tackle have both stocked their shelves. Tell them Captain Mike Gerry sent you; I really want our local stores to know that my followers really appreciate them putting in some local stock.
I am booked solid this upcoming week and then have several openings the week of the 22nd of April into May, if you would like to fish or just want to follow the Pro's fishing the BASS Elite Series please call for details.
My new "fishing tip of the week" is now posted opn my web site
