Smith Lake

April 11th, 2012

Ever since this cold front pushed in, things have changed. I knew we needed to be on the water for the afternoon to evening bite. After not have much lucky on the lights the past couple nights. On Wednesday we launched out of Ryan Creek and started checkout a couple areas. I had a couple guys from the Cullman area that wanted to chase down some stripers. So we ran by a couple spots, till we found them. But once we did, we never left until sun down. We caught one on a umbrella rig. Then we used down lined live bait and in line floats to target them. We caught most of our fish in depths ranging from 25 - 40 feet. The only thing that made it work was fighting a 10 - 20 mph wind for most of the day. Once the sun went down, the bite was done. We tried to hit the lights, but after no luck we headed in. It was a good thing that I changed the trip time. I'll have pictures up on my website by lunch time or sooner. I have a couple dates open in April and the night bite should pick back up with the warmer weather over the next couple day.
