Well, as I write this report it is hard to believe the year has gone by so quickly. I hope 2007 will be our lucky year for rain. With all the north east Texas lakes all low it would be a true blessing. The fishing this week was tough out deep as the wind was a factor. The wind blew most days this past week and fishing the main lake deep water was hard to none. I hear about shallow fish but it is hard for me to work shallow water this time of year when I know the big fish are out there in the deep water filling their bellies with crappie, yellow bass, and shad. I know you can take a lipless crankbait and cover plenty of water and at times this will be the best pattern. The key here is to cover plenty of water and if you get a bite or catch a fish slow down and work the area well. Red will be the best color in your lipless crank bait. Spinner baits worked over points with grass and deep water close will be good areas if the wind won't let you get out deep.

The jig has been a good choice to pitch around heavy cover in 3 to 8 foot of water. Work about half way back in coves and creeks. Pitch every thing you can hit. I like to let the bait hit bottom and hop it two times and reel it back in. This will only get you reaction bites. Heavy line will be needed for this type of fishing. 25 pound test will be great. I know we preach light as possible but fishing heavy cover with this style of fishing you need the heavy line to get the fish out.

The Crappie are stacking up on the main lake but as I said earlier getting there has been tough. If you can get to the dam and duck under the dam it self you can find some fishable water. There are many humps and plenty deep water areas to work.

The fish have been 29 to 36 foot. Small minnows and jigs have been the best bait. Remember that you have to keep the first 25 you catch. This will last till the end of February. The Game wardens have been out and are watching so watch out.

The spring is right around the corner and I am booking trips as I write this report. If you are planning a trip to the lake this spring you need to get your dates set and your rooms booked. Don't forget the big tournament in April will be about the weekend of the 14 &15 or 21 & 22. I will get the right info fir next weeks report.

I want to wish all a Very Safe and Happy New Year!
