Lots and lots of dirty fresh water still flushing thru or river system from all the rain a few weeks ago has made the fishing very tuff. And you know it has made the gigging not even worth going.
I went gigging 2 weeks ago and worked hard to get only a few decent fish so I have put the gigging trips on hold until the water cleans up. The dirty water is reaching out to about 18 miles into the Ocean.
All the fresh water has moved the Trout also from the areas that I can usually wear them out this time of year even the schools of nice Reds are feeding slow. I have not messed with the Trout the last week as well and have just been trying to get a few nice reds for my clients.
I did find some decent Drum the other day on a charter that will be in my next report…
Fishing this past Thursday with Rick and Tyler Daniel it was the same old song of late. A few small Trout and a few small Jacks. Things were not looking good until I decided to sit down on a spot and work some shrimp on jigs and soak some crab.
The first Red came on a shrimp and was about 20 inches and a very welcome site. Then we caught about a 15 inch Sheepshead. It was all but over and as we were reeling everything in to leave the rod with the crab on it bent to the water and started screaming off line. When we first saw the fish it was about 100 yards down the grass line in about 2 foot of water.
Talking about saving the day! After about 20 minutes of fighting this monster Red on light tackle Tyler had landed his first Red fish ever and it was a back water monster. You don't catch to many Reds like this one in the back waters. It weighed in at 14 lbs and was about 40 inched long. What a way to finish!!!
Thanks guys for a fun morning.
