December Red Fishing is in full swing.
The bull redfish have invaded the waters of Pensacola, although nobody seems to be complaining. Each year these massive schools show up around the first week of November and they are here all winter until spring. The past few trips have been outstanding with many multiple hookups and lots of smiles. Not only has the fishing been phenomenal, the weather has been perfect too, with temps in the mid 60's to lower 70's. Nobody tell Mother Nature that it's winter, because wearing a light jacket while going after the big redfish is just how I like it!
You can catch these reds a few ways, but I use Spro Jigs 1.5-2oz white or pink tipped with a small grub and it hasn't failed me yet! If the birds are not too aggressive I'll toss out a top-water plug when the reds are on top, and it is insane when they strike!
These fishing trips are for anglers who want non-stop action with MONSTER, 25 –40 lb fish. The trips are all artificial tackle trips with 7'- 8' med heavy rods and spinning reels, it's some of the fishing best fishing you'll ever experience! Listen to your drag sing for what seems forever as a 30 lb redfish burns off 80 yards of line and then get ready to see if your arms are ready for the fight.
The other styles of trips I run this time of year are inshore artificial only tackle in the upper bays and inlets for specks and reds. As a veteran guide in our area of 12 years I can assure you a professional inshore light tackle action trip in the winter and also in the spring.
I also run specialty trips for anglers who live locally or who have boats and want to learn the area. These trips are called Saltwater Academy Trips – Learn the ins and outs of artificial tackle fishing for redfish and trout with this style of charter.
