Those out there who think that February thru April is the only "trophy trout season" over here in the Baffin/ULM system, consider my numbers for the month of December. I fished twelve times, five of which were half-day or shorter outings on which I went scouting. Caught 30 trout over 25 inches, 13 of those over 27 inches and 8 of those 13 over 7 pounds.
Heaviest fish was 8 pounds, longest 29 inches. That's a pretty consistent month, and a decent number of big fish. This isn't the first good December I've experienced, either. I'm hopeful that such a run is an indication that the rest of winter will be hot too. Admittedly, in February and March, these numbers can be the totals for a single day of fishing!
