Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Andrea and Michael Wigle from Canada were vacationing in Fort Lauderdale and decided to charter the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  As the Wigle’s boarded the boat, I inquired as to what type of fishing they wanted to do, and their response was that they wanted to take home eating fish.  For the past few days, the Kingfish action has been very productive – fish weighing in from 8 lbs. to one that weighed in at 39 lbs.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.  If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water.  We started trolling with two #8 planers down, both with double hooked Bonito strips with sea witches in front.  For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

The current was stronger than normal, with a 4.1 knot current going to the north.  I started to head south of Fort Lauderdale in 135 ft. of water and criss-crossed the drop off.  Our first strike was on one of the planer rods which produced a nice size Kingfish.  From there the competition started.  Right planer rod – left planer rod – now we have a his and hers fish on – both Andrea and Michael brought in two more Kingfish.  The action continued for a good part of the trip.  After the action slowed up, I headed out to deeper waters where we wound up catching three Bonitos and one Black Fin Tuna.

With seven Kingfish, three Bonitos, and one Black Fin Tuna, it was now time to head back to the dock.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.  Dave, our mate, filet out the Tuna for sushi and Kingfish for tonight’s dinner at the dock
