Shad fishing in the DWG has started to show some slowing this week. The large schools have completed their movements through the water gap and we are now fishing smaller pods between major pushes. The river is clearing more and more every day since the last major rain event and what shad that are moving through are becoming increasingly selective in the offerings that they will hit on. Fly fishing is still producing numbers of fish but we are spending more time casting and changing flies then normal. Our fly selection is decreasing in sizes offered with 12-16 sparsely dressed flies in chartreuse and pink still producing fish. Fish are beginning to show themselves in the morning and evening doing their pre-spawn antics on the surface, and late afternoon has been producing fish more consistently then mid day.
During midday focus has begun to swing toward small mouth fishing and woolybuggers have been producing many bass in the 2-3 lb range and a few schoolie stripers to make up for the lack of shad.
