Finally, September is coming to a close and October is looking good. September is always a tough month due to the storms, school getting into full swing and the changing of the seasons. My best advice to you is that you better get that tackle sorted and ready because the next three months are some of the best fishing for Inshore Anglers that Northwest Florida has to offer.
First I'd like to throw out a special thanks to ESPN's O'Boy Oberta Red Fish Cup for picking Pensacola as a venue in their schedule for the second year in a row. It brings a caliber of top notch, best of the best tournament Red Fish anglers, in the world, to our stomping grounds for four days of pure excitement that's unmatched in the realm of inshore tournament fishing. Then run it parallel to the Pensacola Seafood Festival, well what can I say; I just can't get enough!! I sure hope ESPN makes this an annual thing; there must have been 25,000 plus people there Saturday afternoon enjoying the festivities.
The Fiesta of Five Flags presents the Pensacola Seafood Festival in historic Seville Square area in downtown Pensacola. You and your family can enjoy delicious fruits of the sea at this outstanding event which has been consistently recognized as one of the Top 20 festivals in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society. Admission is free throughout the weekend.
The fantastic seafood for which the Gulf Coast is famous will be the highlight of the weekend. Carefully selected food vendors offer a wide variety of seafood dishes and other festival fare. Past food vendors menus have included coconut shrimp, fried oysters, grits a' ya ya, blackened Mahi Mahi, green tomato gumbo, Pensacola crab ball, fried grouper, kettle corn, and funnel cakes.
With more than 200 arts and crafts vendors, the Pensacola Seafood Festival is also one of the largest arts and crafts fairs in Northwest Florida.
Live musical performances by local bands are held throughout the festival in Fountain Park adjacent to Seville Square. This is some good stuff, pull up a chair and stay awhile.
The Pensacola Seafood Festival also offers cooking demonstrations, a 5K run/walk, The Splash Dog competition, a children's area, and other activities. The Pensacola Seafood Festival is held in the Historic District in Seville Square and Bartram Park overlooking the picturesque Pensacola Bay. Destin has its 30th anniversary fall seafood festival this coming weekend. The Destin Seafood Festival is returning to the spot of its origin, the Destin harbor! On Oct. 3-5, 2008, more than 25,000 visitors and locals will pack Harbor Walk Village alongside Destin's docks to enjoy fresh local seafood, live entertainment, arts and crafts booths, children's activities, and lots more. Looks like I got another busy weekend coming up see ya there.
As for the fishing, it's all good right now and it's just going to get better. Lots of inshore action and the near shore reef fishing is as good as it gets. Don't forget about the Running of the Bulls, the migration of the Bull Red Fish is getting under way, now's the time to start making plans to get in on some of the best Bull Red fishing there is.
Nature is an unlimited broadcasting station through which God speaks to us every day --- if we would just take time to listen!
I know one thing for sure - You ain't going to catch'em sittin' on the couch!!
