Well it is the beginning of spring and fishing has been heating up. We didn't get much of a winter this year and the sailfish were hit or miss most days, the main body of fish decided to go elsewhere this year. The good news is the water is already warming and our spring fishing is starting.
Dolphin have been coming through in good numbers off Fort Lauderdale. The wind is starting to give us more days out of the east and that keeps the fish close off our coast. Today the fish seemed to have lock jaw, swiming by with just a little look, but last week they were eating everything in the ocean. They are still hear and will only get better in the coming weeks.
Kingfish are still on the reef off Ft. Lauderdale. Haven't caught any giants recently with most fish in the 10-25lb range there is always a chance at fish over 30lbs.
There were a bunch of wahoo around last week. Best bet was trolling planers and lures in the early morn and afternoon. These fish were on the smaller side, 10-30lbs but still taste great.
The bottom fishing off Fort Lauderdale as usual is the most consistent fishing we have. Groupers are still biting well and have to be release till May 1. Amberjacks seem to be on every wreck now and range from 5-30lbs. African Pomps are on the our northern wrecks and most of these are the smaller variety this time of year. There are a few bull sharks on the wrecks so I am crossing my fingers that the cobias will be there soon too.
Offshore the dolphin are the main target off Ft. lauderdale. The swordfish bite remains consistent, with probably a better shot at night in the past week but that will probably change after the full moon.
The sharks have still been on the beach and will remain for the next month or so. We have been targeting them for the last couple months and are great action on light tackle. Both blacktip and spinner sharks are there and are very hard fighting, especially in 10ft of water where they can go no where but out on a screaming run. Have been catching 2-10 fish in an hour or two.
Give me a call to go fishing.
