Driving Legally Without a License
Part Two
I know when you read part one you must have though that this story was about me "driving a boat." However, it's about me driving a car without a legal license. As I ended the part two with… The voice said, "This is officer "so and so," and your father said, "You know how to drive!"
At this point I could hear daddy's voice in the background. My next question was "where do I pick him up?" The officer said, "Johnny Harris's!" As I walked to the car lots of things were running through my mind. The first and most important was "I hadn't ever driven at night." Well, the good news is I was very experienced driving a boat at night and "how different could it be?" Since I was very familiar with this car I was pretty confident that this was going to be a "walk in the park better known as a drive down the road!"
I had been to Johnny Harris's on dozens of occasions with daddy. So therefore I knew exactly where it was. The fact of the matter is it was straight shot up Highway 80. If you were anyone on Friday night you were either eating or drinking in this place. Since it was Friday night daddy was at least in the right place. As a child I didn't think once why I was picking daddy up or even why the officer called. All I could think about was driving the car. It was just plain exciting to be behind the wheel of an automobile on a real road.
Once arriving to the Johnny Harris parking lot the policeman with his flashlight directed me over. As soon as I stopped I carefully put the car in park. The reason being was one time while in the yard I forgot to put it in "park" and the car almost ran over me. That scare taught me a big lesson, which was "think about what you are doing before you do it!"
At any rate, we all know why I picked daddy up from Johnny Harris's on this particular Friday night. I will never forget how the officer apologized for not being able to bring daddy home. Apparently he had done so before. As of this particular Friday night I graduated from bring a "yard to highway driver!" Life couldn't be any better. I now had two means of transportation "land and sea!" Stay tune for part three…(will be published in December 29, 2008 report) the story even gets better!
Happy Fishing!
