Drift Fishing For Flounder In St. Petersburg!
Now is the time to catch flounder in St. Petersburg. Captain Sean Hagen of Shamrock Fishing Charters specializes in winter time flounder fishing. Captain Sean targets flounder by drifting deep water cuts over sand and shell bottom. Using Eupro Tackle, Captain Sean rigs a 1/2oz slip sinker to 18" of 25lb IT flourocarbon, ties on a 1/0 hook baited with a small to medium size live sardine. After positioning boat up current he drifts over targeted areas, keeping rod tip up he slowly bumps his line. Captain Sean only retrieves the scope of his line at the end of each drift or when reeling in a flounder. The trick is to casaully drag your sinker over the bottom, bumping it now and again in an attempt get the attention of the Mr. Flounder. Flounder hold tight to the bottom usually blanketing themselves in the sand, so when you bump your rod tip the sinker creates a sediment puff on the bottom, triggering a reaction bite from the flounder. The flash and scent of a crippled sardine in combination with "the Puff" often proves too much to resist. You may be suprised to find how many flounder you can pick-off working the same patch of real estate using the "drift" tecnique.
Shamrock Fishing Charters target flounder in St Petersburg during the months of December thru February!
