Captain Judy's Saltwater Fishing Report

Freshies Report!
Even though you don't smoke you might still want to keep some Tobacco around!
My cousin Janice Perkins of Seymour, Tennessee visited me last month. As you would probably imagine the subject of fishing came up! Janice has fished both waters salt and fresh, which is a fisherman's best of both worlds. As we talked we discussed old time remedies. The subject of catfish and the fins that they sport came up. When fishing with her father one summers day Janice's fine catfish catch managed to fin her. Janice's father quickly pulled out his bag of tobacco, quickly chewed a pitch full, laid the moisten parts directly on the wound and held it there. According to Janice this application helped to lessen the sting while drawing out some of the poison.
My father's remedy for a catfish sting was to rub the catfish's belly directly on to the wound, which also helped relieve the soon to be felt pain. My father didn't use chewing tobacco. However, he did smoke King Edward Cigars. He never used them on catfish stings. However, he applied it to every bee sting I ever got at least as soon as he could catch me. Believe me it worked also. This just goes to show you that tobacco is good for something other than chewing or smoking! I suggest adding it to your first aid kit! Thank Janice for taking me once again "back to the past!"
