October 3 Fishing Report:
Fall Salmon fishing on the Fraser river is HOT
Fraser river Chinook(King salmon) fishing is currently excellent for fish averaging 25 lbs. The river is in prime shape with great visibility and this makes for some hot action on our custom lures. Some fish over 50lb are hooked every year and our biggest this fall is about 35 lbs. This Chinook salmon fishery doesn't last long so you want to book for no later than October 10-15 for primetime, anything after that and it slows down.
Coho salmon are here a bit early and in good numbers, this is likely a sign of another good run. Coho was very good the last 2 years from Oct 7 to Nov 7th. Our Coho average 6-10 lbs but there are plenty in the teens. Casting lures or fly fishing are the 2 best methods that we use for success.
Chum salmon are really filling up the Fraser river and this is very promising! Chums are great sport on regular float gear and also have the side effect of triggering the Sturgeon into a feeding frenzy. Chums will run right into late November and provide good fly fishing action too. Some of our Chums get very big so don't bring anything under a 8 wt fly rod.
Sturgeon Fishing the Fraser: everything is ideal! Perfect river conditions and hungry fish. Sturgeon from 75-200 lbs are common and there are some big boys out there up to 1,000 lbs. If you are looking for a monster Sturgeon take note that from later July thru until early November is peak season. Sturgeon fishing continues to be consistently good for us this season with lots of 5-7 footers! Monster sized Sturgeon are being taken too, another 1,000 lb fish was landed last week and fish in the 9 -12ft range are available throughout the summer and fall months. Our success rate this summer is 100% when booking 'just Sturgeon'.
