The last three days I had the pleasure of sharing the boat with three generations of the Otten family. I've fished with Gene, Henry and Nick in the past, and it's always a great time. This trip, they had the opportunity to see the bay at it's best AND worst! On Monday afternoon we made it out for just a few hours before the wind became too strong to fish effectively. We managed 12 keeper walleye and a pike in the short time we were out. Enough for a good fish fry! Yesterday, we had a very, very tough day on the water after the strong cold front went through. The walleyes had lockjaw and we only ended up with two keepers for the day. It's absolutely amazing how thousands of fish can just disappear...but today they re-appeared and we had a hard time keeping six lines in the water first thing this morning. While letting out our first line today the board sank slowly and Nick brought in a nice walleye. In the first 30 minutes of the day we had 7 or 8 keepers. The action was pretty good all morning. In fact, we caught 24 keepers by 11:15 a.m. (releasing several), then went looking for bigger fish. We never found any large fish and ended the day with 20 keeper walleye and several very nice perch. We had something pretty cool happen today too. While Henry was bringing in a 15 or 16 inch fish, we had a nice muskie follow the walleye up to the boat. It looked to be in the low to mid 40 inch range, but very deep and very wide. It was definitely an awesome fish to see and made today's great trip even better. We'll be off the water now for a few days to visit family...good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area. Thanks to Gene, Henry and Nick for a great time and some great fellowship these last 3 days.
