Fishing Report 10/09/2010 – Capt. Terry Frankford
Angler's aboard the Reelin & Chillin have caught snook, redfish, trout, spanish mackerel and shark this week along with several other species. Weather was a little windy during the beginning of the week then died down. Temperatures were in the high 60's to low 80's - couldn't be better.
Bait is looking great - if your buying shrimp regulars are fish-able size, and the selects are fantastic. White bait is all over the place - I prefer netting along the beaches - less grass in the net and it's solid white bait with no other critters - sunup is best.
Snook & Reds: Chumming white bait around the mangroves produced both species. Fishing structure for the reds was also productive.
Trout: Grass flats produced trout using white bait - a little chumming won't hurt.
Spanish Mackerel & Sharks: Hard bottom and artificial reefs produced both species. Some of the spanish macs reached up to four pounds and the black tip sharks up to five feet. We also released a four foot blacknosed shark.
Bait: I used white bait all week on my trips - I have an afternoon trip tomorrow afternoon for reds, I will be armed with select shrimp as well as white bait.
Tackle: St. Croix rods and Okuma's best are rod and reel of choice. Owner hooks with fluorocarbon leader are a must. Light tackle is a fun challenge catching salt water species - not to worry, most fish make it to the boat.
