Rod-Man Report October 12, 2006:

Hi Everyone,

Fall fishing is hot! We have not had the best of weather, but that has not stopped the fish from biting. The cool snap coming this weekend should really put things on fire.

Now here's my report:

Inshore: Red drum, puppy drum, redfish, you pick the name, they are biting. You can find them in the inlets, the waterway, and the creeks. Finger mullet fished on a carolina rig is working best. Flounder are biting in the inlets and some real nice ones are being caught. A few specks have shown up and look for that to improve very quickly.

Near Shore: Still some spanish around, but probably not for much longer. Gray trout are biting mullet and deep jigs at the near shore reefs. A few schools of albacore are around and will get more plentiful with the impending cool snap. Blues are biting at high tide near the inlets.

Offshore: Kings are biting in the 10 mile areas and out to 40 miles. I have heard reports of kings being in the 3-4 mile range...being caught on cigar minnows.

Gulfstream: Wahoo are biting. Tuna, yellowfin and blackfin are around, along with kings.

I had the opportunity to speak to the New Bern Saltwater Fishing Club last week and they were a nice bunch. Thanks guys.

Just a reminder, the Annual Rod-Man Fishing School will be held in both Wilmington and Raleigh this winter. If you want a seat, it's not too early to sign up and it makes a great gift. See the details at http://www.rodmancharters.com/2007.htm

Hey trout fishermen, if you haven't stocked up on GULP SW, it's time! Trout and most everything else love GULP. And fished with an ultra smooth Okuma reel will help you feel every subtle bite. I am proud to announce my latest corporate sponsor: Chatlee Boat and Marine, Sanford, NC. This is where I bought my boat. If you are in the market for a boat, you will be glad you did if you go see these folks before you buy anything. You can visit them at http://www.chatleeboats.com/ or go to my home page and click on their link.

Fishing time is here!

Let's Go Fishing!!!
