Cold Front Hits the Panhandle:

I haven't posted a report in a couple of weeks due to not fishing. High winds and boat maintenance has kept me at the dock.

But now let's talk bull reds, because that's what was making my drag scream today. I headed out with a buddy of mine, Alex, who's just as crazy about fishing as I am. The winds had calmed down and with blue bird skies, I was eager to see some big reds on the end of my line.

We hit Pensacola Bay around 11:30 a.m., and fished until 4:30pm. The bite was pretty good the last two and a half hours of fishing. The first two hours we searched everywhere we could to find the big schools, but we would have a little longer to wait. Finally around 2:30, they popped up, and it was game on.

I had a great time hooking reds with Alex. Alex is usually a kayak fisherman, and he told me it was a treat for him to be on the Mega-Bite. Alex said it was nice to be able to go from A to B in a very short time and be able to cover a lot of water. I have always wanted to try kayak fishing, but my back has kept me from pursuing it.

Tackle Box:

I was using my new Wright and McGill reels with my new All Star ASR rods. It was a match made for fishing. The reels were smooth and had no problem handling these big reds and the ASR rods had great power and a fast tip, which I like with my fishing rods.

I was able to turn the fish when I needed to and able to bring the fish to the boat in a reasonable amount of time so not to wear the fish out too badly.

I'll be out again a few times this week in search of my favorite fish, Mr. Redfish.

I can't get enough of these big reds; it's so much fun. Every time I hook one it's like hooking my first. It brings a smile to my face every time.

Tight Lines.
