Near shore Artificial Reefs
During this time of the year "we offshore fishermen" have it made, because these areas are definitely considered short rides to the fish! The month of October offers all fishermen a chance at catching almost "any fish any where!' The reason being is that "most fish are on the move" during this time. These areas are stopping offs points for fish! During this time fish are determined to get where they are going. However, instincts helps them to refuel on the their way. These areas are programmed not only in your GPS, but also in the "instincts" of the fish. Year after year they make their move while stopping off to refuel.
Artificial reefs as well as any "not put there on purpose wrecks/structure" makes for great fishing especially at this time of the year. All fish from bottom, mid column, to surface travelers make their move to these areas. After an un-ascertained time the bulk of the fish move on while some become "the stayers!"
Lets talk about those fish that are just are passing through for the moment. Fish that are migrating from clearer offshore waters can be picked out of the crowd. This is due to the fact that those fish that are "residents/stayers" are much darker in color. Most marine occupants are great in the camouflaging department meaning, "blending in with their current habitant." This just means fish moving inshore from the blue waters are going to be lighter in color than those migrating from shallow water areas. Over the years I have been able to show my customers the stages that fish go through when they make a scenery change. When you start catching same fish with different coloring I suggest making notes in your logbook, because this information will definitely be "Price Less" for the next migrating season!
