In an effort to try something different, Huli Cat left a little after Midnight to look for Humboldt squid, up high in the water column at night. We farmed the first three or four hooked at 40 feet, in short order. I dropped a jig to the bottom in over 1,250 feet, and brought up a nice size animal. I was going to move and told folks to 'Pick 'em up!' when I hooked another one. I kept them both alive for the trip back home to a ride to Moss Landing Marine Lab. When I got back in phone range, I found out one was too big for the flume. It was quickly processed into edible morsels. We can say the squid are in reach, 2 1/2 hours on a slow jaunt.
