The boats of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association have been spending their time drifting bay and inshore waters for fluke, trolling the inlet and close to the beach for small bluefish, and making periodic trips to the canyons for game fish. Changes in water temperature seem to have made the fluke fishing erratic. The sea bass should be finishing their summer spawning, and that fishery should be in swing soon.

Captain George Finck of Sparetime Charters has been enjoying some good fishing for both sea bass and fluke along with some sea bass. He has found the fluke to be plentiful on his trips to the reefs with many smaller fish. He has also been able to pick up some keepers around the inlet and the bay waters. The Kelly family from Boise, Idaho, had a good trip last week on waters much different from their home state.

Captain Lindsay Fuller took the "June Bug" to the Wilmington Canyon last week with the Ray Hibbs/John Hancock party. For most of the day the water temperatures remained at 72-degrees. Early in the day a school of big eye tuna attacked the lines with one hookup. After a 10-minute fight, the line broke. A day's travel working the edges and into the deep produced only one showing over a marlin that would not take the bait. The chatter on the radio indicated that other boats in the area also had trouble locating fish.
