The weather has changed for the better and we are now back in average or above average temperatures here in south Florida. This has resulted in much better fishing this past week. In the saltwater Snook, Redfish, Sheephead, Sea Trout, and some huge Snapper have been co-operating nicely. During day trips nothing has been better than a light jig tipped with shrimp to produce great catches of Sheephead to 5# and Redfish to 29" along docks and other structure. Out on the flats the Sea Trout have been falling victim to a combination of free lined shrimp and DOA deadly combos.
At night the Snook and Redfish are co-operating very nicely along lighted docks and canals. Freelined shrimp in light tackle have been essential for drawing consistent strikes. Snook are great catch and release options right now. The most shocking turn of events this past week has been the huge, and I mean huge, Mangrove Snapper in some areas. On two recent night charters we have caught tons of big Snapper up to 20".
Another trip that Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing is running with super success is the full day trips down to the Everglades Canal System. The bite is absolutely explosive right now with catches of over 100 fish per angler the norm. This has been a great time to target exotic Oscars and Mayan Cichlids as well as amazing numbers of Largemouth Bass. Just the other day an angler caught and released 87 Largemouth Bass.

Don't forget Tarpon season is coming quickly as is the peak of Peacock Bass fishing in south Florida.
