April 4, 2009 Fishing in Charlotte Harbor is only getting better by the day. We have had a couple mild cold fronts pass through in the last week in March and the first week of April but that didn't stop the fish from eating. I have been catching whitebait in the harbor for a couple weeks now and using them for chumming up redfish, snook and yellowtail jackes.

Snook are leaving Myakka river and the Peace river right now and staging on the East and West walls of Charlotte harbor to eat on the whitebait and finger mullet.

Redfish are on the East and West walls of the harbor all year long and they should start schooling on the flats and stay schooled up if Charlotte County will make the East and West wall a NO MOTOR ZONE from the bar too the shoreline. Sorry just had to vent.

Yellowtail Jackes are crashing the whitebait and the finger mullet pods down the walls of the of the harbor.

Tarpon, well it has been 2 to 4 feet(wave height) in the harbor for at least 10 days and the tarpon dont like that at all we will be catching them any day now. The bait is 3" to 4" in size threads and pillcherds mixed. Next report should be more on tarpon. When the Wind is out of the West fishing is the Best. See ya, Capt. Eric Shinner
