Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Two Jennifers – one the wife of Jake Cauka and the other the wife of Michael Fazekas – all from Chicago south side chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We had winds were out of the east at 15 mph and seas running 3-4 ft. with blue skies.

On our way out we stopped to purchase a half a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T & T Bait. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, fishing lines were in the water at the sea buoy in

Fort Lauderdale located in 120 ft. of water. Our drop off is very quick – if you venture off another ¼ of a mile, it will put you in 500 ft. of water. We started off by trolling with two plainers down, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip; surface baits were four Bonito strips.

As we trolled the reef catching Bonitos and Tunas, I noticed a rip forming – an ideal place to do kite fishing. With two kites up and two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one Shark bait on the bottom, our first fish was the "black shadow". A Sailfish appeared on the right short kite bait chasing the live Goggle Eye with dorsal fin and bill out of the water. "It's a hook up", as line screamed off the reel and the Sailfish came out of the water doing his acrobatic show. All of a sudden the line went slack, and the Sailfish threw the hook. Our next fish on the kite was a 26 lb. Barracuda reeled in by Jake, followed by an explosion on the right long kite, as a silver bullet sky rocketed out of the water. Jennifer reeled in a 32 lb. Anaconda Kingfish. Finally, our Shark rod bent over as Michael was the angler, and after a 35 minute battle, he reeled in a 200 lb. Bull Shark. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released.

With happy smiles on the anglers' faces, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale Fl. 33316.
