Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak
Jeremy Smith, CEO of GSE Gas Company from Ohio, along with his wife, Amber, and their children, Paige, age 13, and Evan, age 11, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This is Jeremy's 2nd charter with us this year. On this fishing trip, Jeremy brought his family to experience the joy of fishing. Winds were out of the east at 12 mph, seas running 2-4 ft., temperatures in the mid 80's with blue skies.
We stopped on the way out of the inlet to purchase some live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. Fifteen minutes later, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling over the reefs ranging from 80 ft. of water out to 190 ft. of water with two plainers down and four surface baits. As we trolled around, the young Smiths took turns bringing in two Tunas and two Bonitos. I selected to fly the kites over one of the wrecks that had been very productive this week located in 225 ft. of water. We put two kites out with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and a Shark bait on the bottom. Evan started calling the fish, "Here fishy, fishy". It did not take too long before his call was answered – dorsal fin on the right long kite bait!!!! The dorsal fin belonged to a Hammerhead Shark. Evan jumped into the fighting chair to do battle and thirty minutes later he was rewarded with a 6 ft. Hammerhead Shark.
We reset the kites again and this time an explosion on the left long kite occurred. A large Kingfish (Anaconda) sky rocketed 6 ft. out of the water – hooked up!!!! Evan was our angler again as the tug of war began. Twenty minutes later he brought the Kingfish to the side of the boat. Dave, our mate, gaffed the Anaconda weighing 22 lbs. and put him in the fish box while saying, "Welcome aboard the Happy Day Today". We reset the kit for the third time and very shortly thereafter another Hammerhead Shark appeared. He ate the right short kite bait (What a sight for everyone to watch the Hammerhead chase the bait so close to the boat.) Hooked Up!!! This time it was Paige's turn to bring in the Shark with help from Evan. Twenty-five minutes later, another 6 ft. Hammerhead Shark was brought to the side of the boat. Dave wired the fish and brought him to the side of the boat. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released
With smiles on the Smith's family's faces, they retired to the a/c salon for the relaxing trip back to the Bahia Mar Dock, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
