Cold temperatures have limited fishing along Florida's Space coast reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). In the past week only a few species of fish have been willing to bite a hook. Around Port Canaveral, sheepshead have been hitting shrimp when fished near barnacle covered pilings and other structure. Many of these fish have measured up to nearly sixteen inches in length. In addition, mangrove snapper have also been hitting live shrimp when fished near the jetties. Many of these snapper have been just above the legal length of ten inches.

Inshore, black drum have been feeding on cut mullet throughout the Haulover Canal during mid day. When fishing with cut bait it is best to use a circle hook. The average weight of these fish has been two to three pounds with an occasional larger fish.
