On the South West Miramichi River today the water was 62F and with over cast. I started the day at 5:10am fishing at the mouth of Cains River with the moon still in the sky, And got 4 nice brookies around 12 to 14 inches. There was still lots of trout around that I could see rolling about. I also fished a couple other pools downstream and had no luck the rest of the morning.
Around 4pm we headed to Edmonds Pool near Doaktown and fished there for a couple hours and got a couple brookies 12 inches.
We then decided to go Shad fishing the rest of the evening at the Shad hole near Blackville. We just got there and a lady had one to the net. So we set up above them and it was not long before Paul Michaels got into his 1st ever Shad. It was a nice one about 5lbs. We managed to land 3 Shad and we must of had 10 more takes, and this was just in the last couple of hours. Robert Arbeau also had 3 or more in the boat. And there was other boats as well getting them near by. Don Roy had several Brook Trout this afternoon all around the 12 to 14inch range.
There was several canoers sailing the river today and injoying the days fishing. Tomorrow should be better for the Shad with alot more sign today of them rolling about. There has been reports of Silver Atlantic's moving through but I have not got my hook into one yet, and I will let you no when I do!
Bye for now,
Rodney Colford
