Captain Jack McGowan definition on the best way to fish new water!
Fishing New Water - A fishing report for Miss Judy!
Everybody wants to find a new drop or fish somewhere off the beaten path where the fishing is great! There's nothing wrong with wanting to fish new water. Sometimes new water can be fishing the same water but at different tides or different set ups. For example, a drop for sea trout on low incoming might be productive on low outgoing fishing deeper or simply fishing from a different angle. Try fishing open water with no apparent structure. Use float or live bait rigs to eliminate and cover water. Most fishermen try to use low water to scout or find new drops. Low tide is an excellent time to scout. An even better time to scout is on low water days with small tides. A small tide will let a fisherman remain on flat for a longer period of time. Getting stuck is possible just not as likely as on days with more fluctuation. Often the bite is hot in one area and cold in another. One year certain drops are hot and then cold another. Areas that are heavily fished can still be productive particularly when fishing a little differently. One of the best strategies for staying on fish is not to go back to same drop day after day. Fish different areas or the same area a little differently. Fish the conditions. I'm guilty as next you've caught some great fish the day before on a flat, weather conditions change, instead of fishing new water you try to make something happen. This falls under the category of you should have been here yesterday. What a silly statement. Fish the conditions and keep trying. Often good things will happen. Yesterday the reward of fishing the conditions was one large redfish after the other!
Hope this of help! Only keep what you intent to eat and release the rest!
