WEll, we are back from key west, and wow another nail biter, right down to the last minute again. This time we did not win the last minute battle but we did win a moral victory. The world sailfish tournament has been good to the Get Lit and the Crew of the Cutting Edge and this year proved to be the same. We started off getting to key west early by a day to scout and try to figure things out. With over 1000 sardines, 300 threads and goggle eyes we were ready. The first couple of days of scouting proved valuable for us locating the fish to the WEST and some to the EAST. So, day one seemed a no brainer, wrong! We never saw a fish for the first time in 4 years of tournament fishing on the Get Lit. But, the fishing was really slow and we just had to accept the fact that we had two days to catch up to a 4 fish lead. So day two proved to be much better. We made a bold move and ran to sand key to try and be alone and it worked, only two other boats rode it out to the West. Unfortunately we did not capitalize on the first couple of shots and allow the Lights Out to catch 6 with in yards of us. But we hung in there and caught 5, and now had hope. On the lay day we went out with the intentions of proving to our selfs which baits they were eating best and where looked like our best area to make a comeback. We did that, catching 7 in an hour, we ran back to the West the last morning and knew the bait of choice was the fresh thread fin. It only took a few minutes to get the first bite which proved not to be, after a short fight the fish jumped and it was gone. Now, on some boats that might set the stage for the day but not on the Get Lit, we fought back and with 6 minutes left tided for the daily. This is when the fun began. With Sandman winning the tournament with 17 fish and the daily with 6 we new we had to figure out a way to get 7 seven fish. With 6 fish was the Sandman, Qau Mas, Barefoot and Get Lit. As we approached a nice blue edge Miss Britt moved inside which forced me to take a different approach to the edge, they at the time had 11 fish and were sitting in 3rd place. I moved outside and saw some bait push and lowered our bait in that spot bingo, just as a fish came up the Qau Mas and Barefoot get bites, then our fish eats, so we are all three hooked up. We dump all our lines in hopes of getting our fish first. Roaring back and Touching the tip to the leader but not able to reach it for the touch cost us. A quick catch for Qau Mas put them in the spot for the daily, but we did catch ours seconds later and got the second place daily and our 12th fish, which ties us up for 3rd place but 5th on time knocking Miss Britt out and down to 6th overall. Sandman did not see another fish and took 3rd place daily. Sandman did win the tournament so congratulations to them and Neil. The Get Lit did Win $72000 for the second place daily and 5th place finish on time (3rd on fish,12) WE also took First Place in the Wild Card for the Pro Series and will compete in two weeks for that series. It should be fun we finished last year in second place in the pro series. Congratulations to all the Get Lit Team and thanks to all the support we have had on our web sites and the calls, it has been a really great time.
Fishing in Miami on the Cutting Edge this fishing has also proved good. We had 2 sailfish yesterday and lots of small jacks, and kings. Some tuna and Dolphin are showing up. We are fishing the edge today for sailfish so stay in touch.
