Chinook Fishing
Has been very good at Long Beach and the bight is happening all day there. Often the bight at Long Beach is an early morning bight but the past week it has been good ALL day. Sizes range from 10-25lbs. Depending on what you are using you will probably get more in the 10-15 range but there are combinations and areas that tend to produce larger average fish.
Hutchies, spoons and anchovies are working here. You really don’t need anchovies as the numbers of Chinook here have been very good and some hutchies and spoons are way out producing bait.
Beg Island, Great Bear and Allie rock have had a couple of days of good fishing too. It’s the time of year when you will get schools of fish passing by and when they do it can be a lot of fun if you don’t want to make the 9 mile trip to Long Beach.
The squid are mostly gone in Florencia which is always sad to see for some of us. Way always has salmon swimming past and the few times I have been there I have hit fish within few minutes of setting the lines but others haven’t had good reports and it may just be luck of the draw.
Coho Salmon
Have slowed down inside Barkley sound. There are some Coho at Long Beach but you have to throw back the ones that don’t have clipped adipose fins.
Halibut fishing
Has been good for our guys in a few different spots. We haven’t had the need to travel to Big Bank yet and that will probably come later in August. Outside South, Outside Light, the Barnyard and Long Beach have all been producing well and out guides have been getting some nice quality sized halibut.
Wildlife:
We have been seeing quite a few whales, sea otters and more sea lions the past couple of weeks which is always pleasant to see.

What is expected for the rest of July/August 2024?
Fishing for Chinook salmon should keep getting better as the summer roles along. July and August are generally considered peak time. That is why we have a 50Lbs a day guarantee for both July and August. We are expecting a Chinook run size we haven’t seen in a very long time during August.
If you are wanting to come fishing with your own boat you can inquire about accommodation for 2025. We have parking for trailers. If you would like tips on what do do in the area check out www.ucluelet-info.com and www.discovervancouverisland.com.
Tight lines,
