Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 1/23/16
To clarify, I am not back fishing yet due to the recent surgery, so my reports are some second hand information and some look at what I would be doing if I was back on the water and physically able to fish.
We just got through the coldest week of this winter, not only was the fishing tough but the elements was for the strong at heart for sure. There were several day this past week where the wind chill was down in the 20's most of the day making it somewhat miserable on the water. My target had I been out there would have been the deeper water, looking for edges or points that transition into the deeper water like creeks or ditches. I believe the timing was perfect for SPRO Little John DD 70's it has a perfect wobble for cold water and works well down to 20 ft. of water. Fishing it erratically with stops, long pulls and speed changes should have been the ticket to some good winter size bass.
I also like to slowly retrieve swim bait off the deep bottom to allow some constant contact with the bottom. The key here is slowly retrieving it, being committed to letting the bait bump off bottom structure; if you fish a heavy Picasso Lures 1 oz. or heavier swim head it will stay down pretty easy.
Come fish with me no one will treat you better!
