Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 10/17/09
Another week of mixed results on the water, we started to see some signs of the typical fall fishing, during the mid part of the week, I had high hopes; but then! Friday this extreme cold and wind moved in and to say the least it was very tough. The first problem was you had to be dressed correctly or it was very uncomfortable and secondly the wind kept you off a lot of the main river areas that I have been fishing.
Early in the week we had some good fish over 5 lbs. and if you wanted to fish the schooling fish you could walk away with catches over 50 or more fish, and mixed in there were many white bass, spots, stripers and even some cat fish! We caught these schooling fish on jigging spoons and a few on top water baits.
The traditional bites came on mainly top water baits over grass, a few on crank baits and our biggest fish came rat fishing! The crank bait bite showed signs of coming on strong in certain areas, but then died with the change in weather.
Hopefully this weather change will be what we need to turn on the fall bite and maybe we will get a few weeks of some strong traditional fall fishing.
