Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 11/29/09
I spent just a couple of days on the water this week, the others I enjoyed some holiday turkey and probably added some belt size to my existing plump body. Not being much for conserving at the dinner table, I suspect I ate my fair share and someone else's besides.
The fishing however was really pretty good; although we didn't catch a lot in numbers we did put some quality fish in the boat. We spent most of the 8-hour days working over grass looking for that big bite, both my customers were determined to find a big bite so we worked hard to get it! We could have made a switch to the schooling fish and caught some numbers but decided to stick with the big bite.
I believe that the bass are in transition from the traditional fall pattern of shallow and buried in grass to moving out to the deeper depths. Every day this week the bass catch off the grass went up and I believe it's the pattern change to winter fishing.
It's time for some bait changing from grass top water baits to jerk baits and shaky head worms fishing deeper and slower, at least during the low sun parts of the day. It's the time of year where I like going to hair jigs, as they fall vertical and entice that suspending fish on the way down.
The winter fishing is here, and there are some good times to be had on Guntersville. Come fish with me I have days available to fish with you!
