Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 11/7/10
The past week was full of all kinds of challenges, extreme cold for this early in the year, winds around 30 mph and bass that have been stingy at best being pushed by the cold wintery type weather. The good news was if you could hide from the wind the bass actually came out to play most of the week. The other exciting thing was the bass have seemed to finally want some faster moving bait; as we caught fish on several search baits.
My customers this week if they were dressed properly really had some good fun especially with rattle baits and Secret Weapon buzz baits. The grass has really showed some signs of dying and being ripped away from the bottom allowing you to fish more search type baits and work closer to the grass beds. I must say that as is fairly typical this time of year the bites came in streaks and the down time with cold north winds made the day long and cold.
The good news is this cold spell will definitely help the fishing at least for a few more weeks; numbers should be a lot easier to come-bye until they finally head deep for the winter. Even then I've seen years where we kept warming up after a short cold spell and the bass moved with the warming days and the bright sun and made for some great winter fishing. There is definitely some good times left in the season before winter, and if you like the lake to yourself, this can be the best time of year.
